Reading Notes Week 15: Buddha Part D

Now that the Buddha has finally become the Buddha, there is still so much left to the story. To begin Part two of the book that is written on the life of Siddhartha, the first Buddha, he is still meditating under the tree of knowledge. From what is written he meditates for four weeks straight. During the even weeks he goes on these "journeys" that I assume are like astral projecting a bit. For the first journey it is a long that that takes him through "all the worlds." I think this journey would be a great way to tell a story because it never elaborates on exactly what happens, so I could go wherever I please with the story.

In the fourth week he goes on another journey, but this is one shorter and he travels from coast to coast. I am not sure where exactly this is set, whether it be in India or some fictional land that no longer exists, but I am going to assume India. I think this may be a better story to tell because the journey is shorter and would be much easier to write about, but then I would have to do extra research on the landscape of India and try to find him something for him to do.

Eventually he stops meditating and Mara comes back to try and stop him again and discourage him with words, but they do not work. He is officially the Buddha that we all know, so of course he is going to fight of any sources of negativity and evil with his words. This happened when Mara's three daughters came to try and trick Buddha with song, but of course, it did not work and they were defeated as well. At the same time though, when they pleaded to him and apologized, they turned beautiful again. This is the Buddha that I have been waiting for. The wise and kind Buddha.

Then he remained under the tree but occasionally moved. This part I was slightly confused about, but I think if I were to write a story, I would stick to his journey.

Comments

  1. Hi again! I really liked how you used Buddha to write your week 15 reading notes / story about. I personally was really interested and intrigued by the story of Buddha being so wise and intelligent and waiting for things to occur the way they did as waiting and not taking part in certain situations may be the right thing to do at times. But also, I personally liked this story and decided to write my own version of it on my blog as buddhism is very similar to hinduism but each of the religions have their own similarities and differences which are unique to each religion. Good job and well done in this course!

Introduction to Ya Boi Jacob Heath

Hey all, My name is Jacob, but I go by many nicknames: Jake, Heath (my last name), DJ (it is a long story). You can also just call me Jacob, which is what most people do. My major is microbiology/pre-med. Microbiology is an odd major because the first microbiology course I took was not until second semester junior year, so I am glad I enjoyed it or else I would have wasted my first two years on a major I did not enjoy! I eventual plan is to become a doctor. I still have a long ways to get there, but I am hopeful. People always ask me what specialty I am planning on, and I always hate giving them an answer. That part of my life is sooooo far away that I know my views and likes on different areas of medicine will change. Because most people expect an answer, I tell them sleep medicine because something about sleep and dreams interest me so much. I was the kid who had night terrors and sleep walked (I still do sometimes), so I think it would be a good fit for me. My biggest hobby wo

Week 12 Story: Seeking Refuge

A family of five stand in the long line at the Mexico/US border trying to get through. The mother asks the father if he has the correct paperwork needed to cross through. They believe there will be no issue as they are only seeking refuge in the states. With anticipation they wait. Longer and longer as the sun beats down overhead. Finally, after about six hours waiting, their turn comes. The border patrol asks for their paperwork. He stares at it for a long time as if trying to find something wrong with it. Eventually he hands it back to them and tells them to pass. The children start to get excited, but the mother tells them to calm down. They are not in the clear until the border is no longer in sight. As they begin the cross the bridge by foot, they are stopped by another patrol. He tells them to come over for a random inspection. The father does not know what they are going to inspect. All they have are the clothes on their backs. The officer searches each one of them, even t
