Reading Notes Week 10: Krishna's Stories A

There were two stories that stuck with me this week in the first part of Krisha's stories. I decided to watch the video versions of them because taking a break from reading is much needed at this point in the semester.

The first story that was that of Krisha's Mouth. I am not sure why I liked this story because at first I thought it was pretty odd and strange. I thought it sounded familiar when I watched it but could not put my finger on why. After thinking about it for a second I realized when he opens his mouth, it is very similar to a seen in the movie IT by Stephen King (The new one). Where Pennywise (the eil clown) open his mouth and the girl who is staring into it gets put into a trance like state. I think that each character saw something similar, but rather than the evil in IT, the mother of Krishna saw the universe and all its creations. A story that could be a good idea would be a more detailed account of what she saw when she looked into the eyes of Krishna. It must have been intense and scary and beautiful all at the same time and I think making that come to life in a story would be really cool.

The other story that I really enjoyed was the one about music. I love music and even used to play a few instruments, so this would was great to read. There was also something about dreams in this story, but I could not quite understand that part. This story resembles the story in the Mahabharata about the riddles at the lake. Men die from drinking water and then one man comes and saves all of them from the evil that looks over the water. In this case it was a snake that had poisoned the water and instead of riddles to be solved, Krishna played the flute. Music is a very powerful device in both modern day and in Indian Epics, so making music be a weapon per say was really cool to read. I am not sure how I would make my own story from this though because I usually like to take new views on stories rather than retelling them. When it comes time to write a story, I will decide. Most likely I will stick with the other story.

Introduction to Ya Boi Jacob Heath

Hey all, My name is Jacob, but I go by many nicknames: Jake, Heath (my last name), DJ (it is a long story). You can also just call me Jacob, which is what most people do. My major is microbiology/pre-med. Microbiology is an odd major because the first microbiology course I took was not until second semester junior year, so I am glad I enjoyed it or else I would have wasted my first two years on a major I did not enjoy! I eventual plan is to become a doctor. I still have a long ways to get there, but I am hopeful. People always ask me what specialty I am planning on, and I always hate giving them an answer. That part of my life is sooooo far away that I know my views and likes on different areas of medicine will change. Because most people expect an answer, I tell them sleep medicine because something about sleep and dreams interest me so much. I was the kid who had night terrors and sleep walked (I still do sometimes), so I think it would be a good fit for me. My biggest hobby wo

Week 12 Story: Seeking Refuge

A family of five stand in the long line at the Mexico/US border trying to get through. The mother asks the father if he has the correct paperwork needed to cross through. They believe there will be no issue as they are only seeking refuge in the states. With anticipation they wait. Longer and longer as the sun beats down overhead. Finally, after about six hours waiting, their turn comes. The border patrol asks for their paperwork. He stares at it for a long time as if trying to find something wrong with it. Eventually he hands it back to them and tells them to pass. The children start to get excited, but the mother tells them to calm down. They are not in the clear until the border is no longer in sight. As they begin the cross the bridge by foot, they are stopped by another patrol. He tells them to come over for a random inspection. The father does not know what they are going to inspect. All they have are the clothes on their backs. The officer searches each one of them, even t
